Motorway maintenance agencies, town councils and landscaping firms use chipping devices to shred sawn-off branches and bushes on site.

Employees feed these machines manually and run the risk of their hands being drawn into the machinery and thus suffering serious injury.

U-Tech GmbH's GSG207 personnel safety unit for wood chippers prevents this. It consists of three elements:

• A safety helmet with transponders integrated into the ear defenders
• A control unit
• An antenna.

The GSG 207 is an electronic safety device which, in conjunction with the transponder incorporated into the ear defenders, causes the wood chipper to shut down if hands (and therefore automatically also ear defenders) are placed too far inside the filling chute of the chipper. This prevents hands from being injured by the feed rolls.
