Raw materials are resources which are in demand worldwide. Waste paper and plastic waste are raw materials; they are professionally collected, pressed into large bales at civic amenity sites and sent for recycling. Presses, which apply pressures of up to 80 metric tonnes, are used for pressing waste paper and plastics. These machines are highly dangerous for employees. With traditional safety devices, if an employee accidentally steps onto the conveyor belt and if his mobility is restricted by falling or other circumstances, he has virtually no chance of saving his own life. Single workstations pose a particularly high risk.
Motorway maintenance authorities, city councils and horticultural companies use these machines to shred sawn-off branches and tree trunks on site. Workers feed the machines by hand and run the risk of having their hands drawn in and suffering severe injuries.
