Accidents occurring while working on channel baling presses are frequently fatal as employees usually work alone at these machines. If an employee falls into the press shaft and is no longer able to stop the pressing process him or herself, mechanical safety systems such as ripcords are only effective in the rarest cases. How then can companies avoid these accidents?
The U-Tech personal protection system has been designed especially for use on conveyor belts and presses. Based on state-of-the-art RFID technology, this system automatically shuts down the machinery as soon as an employee enters a previously defined danger area.
How does this work? The employee wears one of the special U-Tech transponders on the body. If an employee enters the danger zone, the antenna module sends a pulse to the control unit, which then switches off the machine automatically.
Note: statutory regulations!
The European DIN standard EN 16252 specifies that horizontal baling presses, which are fed by conveyor belts, must be protected by railings or other protective equipment at a minimum height of 1.10 metres. If this is not possible due to a disruption in operating process, a “sensitive safety device” must be selected. (DIN EN 16252 Section 5.1.2.1a)
Our tip:
thanks to its IFA certification, the non-contact U-Tech Press safety device meets all statutory requirements and actively protects the lives of your employees. We would be delighted to prepare a quote for you, which meets your individual requirements.
The Personal Protection System U-Tech PRESS, based on RFID, was certified in 2015 by the IFA, the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, in accordance with the European standards DIN EN 61496-1 and DIN EN ISO 13849-1.
